A 6 letter word for "taking over the world"? Answer: Google

The internet holds an infinite amount of information, and each day more and more data is uploaded and collected. There's an old saying that "knowledge is power", so if someone were to obtain all the knowledge on the net, then they could have enough power to take over the world. While that may be a bit of an exaggeration, Google is trying its best to prove it to be true. With billions of web pages at its disposal, where users can find and look up information and products with just a few choice words and a click of the button, it's no wonder Google is the number one search engine on the web. At this very moment, as I am typing this blog and you are reading it there are probably millions of people using Google, be it for the news, video, blogging, or whatever. Search engines like Google allow people to stay in touch with the world from the comfort of their homes or at work, or wherever they can get on the internet. More and more people are shopping online and reading the news from their laptops and PCs. The internet contains information on just about everything, including you.
Every time you sign up for something, or make an online purchase, it is cataloged and stored so that companies, like Google and any other willing to purchase your information, can know more about your wants and dislikes so they can better cater to your needs. It's scary how much of our lives are known to those who know where to look. Credit card numbers, birth dates, names, email addresses, and more are all swirling around on the net. I know that when we make purchases on the net, the credit website says that our information will be confidential and not given to the public, but how protected it is really?
Another issue with Google is that it is really holding a monopoly on other search engines on the net. The recent news of Microsoft trying to merge with Yahoo has many people wondering what is going to happen next. Can Microsoft really pull it off and give Google a run for its money? And if so, what changes will there be? I've always found competition to be a good thing as it makes everyone try harder and become better. Will Google be replaced by something even more powerful and expansive? Perhaps the next big engine will not only give us the news, but also show up to date traffic reports and "map quest" like directions that can integrate traffic updates and change your route accordingly.
Google has some really amazing features at its disposal, and I'm sure it will continue to evolve into something even better as it strives to stay numero uno. I just hope that it knows that "with great power, comes great responsibility."
