Flash Project

I think I've settled on building a site about car shopping online--with a focus on Mini's. I don't know about other shoppers, but I research everything to death before I ever make a major purchase. And car shopping is no different. The internet is the best research weapon auto buyers have to make sure they are well informed about everything related to making an auto purchase. Besides, I LOVE my li'l speed demon! So, there will be lots of Mini content.

Online Murder!

I ran across this today and thought it was interesting.
I wonder if this will set a president.

Online divorcee jailed after killing virtual hubby
Oct 23, 2008

TOKYO: A 43-year-old Japanese woman whose sudden divorce in a virtual game world made her so angry that she killed her online husband's digital persona has been arrested on suspicion of hacking, police said Thursday.

The woman, who is jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game "Maple Story" to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

"I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry," the official quoted her as telling investigators and admitting the allegations.

The woman had not plotted any revenge in the real world, the official said.

She has not yet been formally charged, but if convicted could face a prison term of up to five years or a fine up to $5,000.

Players in "Maple Story" raise and manipulate digital images called "avatars" that represent themselves, while engaging in relationships, social activities and fighting against monsters and other obstacles.

The woman used login information she got from the 33-year-old office worker when their characters were happily married, and killed the character. The man complained to police when he discovered that his beloved online avatar was dead.

project 3

I really wrote this blog last night but I posted it on Dr. Peirce's blog. It's hard to stay organized when your three year old is helping you type, asking when he can watch Tom and Jerry on youtube.
So without any further delay my blog post as it appeared on Dr. Peirce's blog: After flip-flopping many times I am undecisively deciding the topic for project 3 to be about the two toobin' rivers in New Braunfels. I am calling the NB River Report. The navigation tags will be: River Updates, Rules, Rentals, Relax. Hope you enjoy.

project 3

Mine will be a research (?) project of my favorite drinks (Sorry .. no alcohol beverages). A little bit fun facts, nutrition, etc..

Let me know if you have any specific requests.

Choon

Huddleston For Sheriff or Relax Through Listening.

The Website that I have great interest in is a site that I want to do for one of my life long best friends. She is a psychotherapist and LMSW that is completely holistic in her approach to counseling. She specializes in a number of treatment approaches, but her "guided meditation" or "hypnotherapy" is very powerful and extremely relaxing to me. I will build her site, but what has happened to me is that I had an unexpected client approach me to re-do his Website and add a video to his home page. He is running for Hays County Sheriff and is up against terrible deadlines to get the new look site posted. I re-built his site over the weekend using the old site as a foundation just to get the new look up there. Now I'm re-building the site in a proper manner so that the programming language and scripting are more eloquent, clean and functional.

Project 3

For this project I think I am going to do an extension of my initial hobby page which was Fitness and Wellness.  With this project I think will focus more on women's fitness and wellness with pages for nutrition, workouts etc. I will also put in sample nutrition/workout plans because I always enjoy making them and  I love writing about this type of thing in general so the content should be fun for me to do.  I also think Ive got my color scheme down, so now I just need to think of a logo.

Project 3

My hobby site will be dealing with new films, production news, rumors, budget information and profits/losses etc. The film industry is already a big hobby of mine so this sounds like a great project. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions, I am still a little green with the whole web design thing.

Project 3

My idea for project 3 is to do a site on theatre. I'll have a home page, video page, a page with a few Austin theaters, and one about Broadway shows I like. The sections might change so if anyone has any suggestions let me know!!

Project 3

I am so excited that the Texans finally won a game! Yeah! Anyways, after having several ideas, I decided on my topic since I liked the design the best. I would like to do mine on Chardonnay and have four pages: home, history, recommended brands and contact. I've already nailed down the color scheme and I was thinking of having a "cork" background look to my navigation links.  Also, for my logo I was thinking of having a corkscrew sideways and having the word Chardonnay "spinning" out of it. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

WHAT?! Project 3, nobody ever tells me anything.

It would be nice if at the beginning of the semester we would get a list of the things we will be doing from week to week. I jest, of course.
My hobby Web page will be dealing with scuba.
Isn't it a beautiful day!?

Project 3-Tennis Website

Howdy everyone, hope everyone is having a good weekend. I will be doing Project 3 on my favorite hobby and the sport I played in high school, tennis. The project will consist of the history of the sport, how-tos, various websites to navigate on the sport, and clips of classic tennis matches.

My hobby Site

Greetings Everyone!

I just wanted to let everyone know that for my hobby site I am going to design a site for my sorority. I will have several links: Home, History, Iota Omega (my chapter), service and events. That's all for now. See you soon!

Hill Country Shiba Inu Club

I will do project 3 on the Hill Country Shiba Inu Club. I organize a meetup group for people who own shiba inus (a Japanese dog.) We have play dates, parties, etc. once a month or more. The meetup page is: Hill Country Shiba Inu Club. I will probably have a page on history of the breed, characteristics of the breed, pictures from meetups, and shiba inu rescue organizations.

Project 3

For my next project I want to use cinematography as a theme since videography is my hobby. I will have a navigation bar with gallery, script, pre-production, and post production as the possible links. Well, now that I have sketched my site on my paper I see the possibility of having two navigation bars; one on the top and one down the left hand side. The one down the left hand side can have links to resources. Since it sounds like the site needs to be educational or instructional I could write it for teachers as my audience and outline how to integrate the use video in the classroom???? Since feedback is required what do you think?

MGTV - Student TV

I am making a website for Texas State's only student-run television program. We call it MGTV (Maroon and Gold Television). Last year, we had a show called "To The Point," and this year, the show morphed into "Studio B." It's basically the same show, it's just more tailored to our college demographic. We just had our first episode last week. You can check it out here.

I plan to have at least four navs - Home, About, Contact and Media. Each page is pretty self-explanatory. I want to make a very clean site. We don't have a whole lot of text content to put on the site, so I'll mainly focus on our video clips and pictures.

Want to visit Hawaii?

I spent two weeks in Hawaii in August and loved it (probably because my fiance proposed to me there)! My site will be on visiting Hawaii. I will include good (cheap) restaurants to visit, favorite tourist spots, shopping and travel information. It's a good way to show off all my pictures, too.

project 3 idea

i do a homebrew co=op for my church.
this is my idea.

Cooper's Tool Fan Site

For our next project I will be making a fan site for my favorite band Tool. I will include album art, discography, lyrics, pics, blog, and etc. as pages. Hope you enjoy.

Wine Girl

For my next website-building project I want to design a hobby site about wine. I'm thinking about pages that would include personal favorites, best places to shop locally, great wine events in the area, and where best to enjoy. What do you think? I'd love some feedback!

I made this wt my Mac

I am pretty excited about this and I figured maybe someone here might think it's neat too.
It's for my rhetoric course.

One more reason why Mac wins.

Drooling Googlers

OPINION: Lewis Knight

I have to admit, I think I'm getting a little older. Every time a new technology of a new innovative use for technology comes out, I find myself dragging my feet to learn and use it. I have been told that change is harder for old people to accept and "you can't teach an old dog new tricks". What I think it comes down to is that sometimes I'm lazy and don't want to put forth the effort to learn something new, that once learned will in some small or large way improve my life (kind of like going to the gym I guess). Once I take the time - burn a few brain cells and learn the new tool of life I'm always better off for it.
This brings me to my point. As mentioned in the Damon Darlin article "Technology Doesn't Dumb Us Down. It Frees Our Mind", all new innovation is criticized by the current established elite in what ever the arena may be. What it boils down to is that someone is about to loose a position of power unless the keep current. Fear motivates the "nay-sayers" to criticize innovation not the shortcomings of said innovation.
The printing press is mentioned as an innovation once panned by critics. Well those married to the printed word said Radio and then TV would be the downfall of society. I think society was a great let down to those with vision that were never able to bring those technologies to their fullest potential.
With each new technological advancement comes the responsibility to use that tool or innovation to the full potential of human good. We regularly fall short not the tools we use.
I'm sorry I could not write this in less than 140 characters, I'm still getting that "Twitter" thing worked out in my head. I tried to google a couple of more stories that would support my opinion - Can someone be to dumb for google?

Fun :Techno" Myths

Only if you let it...

Can technology make us dumb? Yeah, if you let it.

Damon Darlin's article hit the nail on the head. Techonology such as the web has liberated us from the time-consuming task of finding information that would difficult to get otherwise. However, that doesn't mean you will not have to use a book or a map at some point in time to find information, which means you better know how to use it.

I think some of us can remember a time before Word and Google. Granted some of us may have been 10 years-old, but we had to look up information the old fashion way: Going to library to check out a book, picking a phone directory or asking someone smarter than us to answer a question. Now information is just a click or a search away. Don't get me wrong, that's great. As someone whose parents couldn't afford a set of encyclopedias, I would have loved to have the web during grade school. My parents had a grade school education, and as much as they wanted to help me with homework, they simply couldn't. However, I always managed to find someone to help or a good book to provide the answer.

The thing is the web won't give us every answer and sometimes it only comes up with answers it thinks might work. The example I'm leading to here is maps. ABC News has an interesting story on this as well. Just because your phone has GPS doesn't mean it can always tell you the shortest or most accurate way to get someplace. And what happens when you have no 3G and no map? I guess you get lost. Like this:

I hate what "The Matrix" has done to culture...

Hmmk...I can see both sides of this arguement.

But let's see what technology has to say about Mr. Carr's complaints...

Carr-
"...my concentration often starts to drift after two or three pages. I get fidgety, lose the thread, begin looking for something else to do. I feel as if I’m always dragging my wayward brain back to the text. The deep reading that used to come naturally has become a struggle."

Or maybe Google wise to Carr.
I can sort of identify with Carr here. My problem is not reading, it's memory recall. Like Carr, I don't think I'm losing my mind, but where I used to be able to recall vocabularly, movie trivia, street names, song titles, etc., now after minutes of staring into space to recall, I frustratingly turn to Dictionary.com, IMDB, Google Maps, or Wikipedia (Most of which I have either bookmarked on my browser's toolbar or set up as a widget).
    Yep.

Mainly, I beleive that all this is helpful-- but partly, I do agree with Mr. Darlin's arguement about the trade-off of fast information for time-sucking aps
Carr brought up the example of 2001: A Space Odyssey. This brought to mind a few other films about the end of technology and the future.
Most of these are a bit bleak. At the risk of sounding like someone who has taken these too seriously, something about Carr's arguemnt resounds with the "we can make technology so advacned that we are dependant on it, and when it breaks, or turns on us we are in big trouble."
And maybe one day we will all turn to monkeys. Wouldn't that play into Carr's hand niceley...

In my opinion, I think that culturally, academically, scientifically, and leasurely, we are in a better place thanks to technologoy/Google. I agree that we have more time to think creatively when we are not bogged down with tedious things computers can do for us. But, if this were to happen, and we were to rely on what we know how to do, how many traditional mental tasks and scientific and mathmatical skills have been phased out because we have computers to do them for us?Based on this post, spelling, is one I would struggle with sans technology.
