Does any one else realize that today is Super Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras Superb! I do believe that this is the first time in modern history that Mardi Gras and Super Tuesday converged. We have to celebrate. In our celebration, I will define interactivity.
Actually, as we have read interactivity is hard to pinpoint. Simplistically, I would like to say that it is communication with the aid of technology. This explanation is very ambiguous and extremely general for a reason. Interactivity is very complex and can apply to many different areas of communication, and technologies and at times even appear to smudge the line between the two.
In our book, Web Theory, Marshall suggests that interactivity is a communication between parties where both sources communicate through a medium such as the telephone or the Internet. However, my question then is: when a person speaks through a microphone to person wearing a hearing aid does that count as being interactively connected? I think the argument can be made that perhaps they are.
To expand on the definition of Interactivity Downes and McMillan offer six dimensions of this computer mediated communication: direction of control, time flexibility, sense of place, level of control, responsiveness, and perceived purpose of communication. These specifications assist us in narrowing down the concept of what it means to be interactive. Kiousis builds upon the existing definition by suggesting that interactivity has both a media and psychological factors that varies across communication technologies, communication contexts, and peoples perceptions.
The implications interactivity has on the long tail is outstanding. It has Immortalized almost everything recorded, albeit written or otherwise. I don't think business models should necessarily plan for or incorporate plans utilizing the long tail, but I do think it can help the bottom line of particular instances.
Trust me this is a lot better than the Wolfe Biltzer on Bourbon Street analogy I thought about.

I LOVE the title of your Blog. I am so into Super Fat Tuesday right now, it's hard to keep up with my blog. I think it took me about an hour to write my blog since the television was on CNN the entire time. Happy Super Fat Tuesday!
